The name Septarian is derived from the Latin word " septum", meaning partition, and refers to the divisions or cracks that are typical of this sort of rock.

From Late Cretaceous Period. Approximately 100 million years old.
Found in Kane County, Near Orderville, Utah
These stunning geodes compose ofCalcite (Yellow Centers) , Aragonite (Brown Lines), Limestone (Outer Grey Rock), occasionally Barite, Pyrite and Marcasite.
Utah Septarian is mined from sedimentary rock 20 to 80 feet below the surface of the Earth ! Only about a quarter of them have hollow centers.
